In addition to our custom furniture line, bbs offers a full re-upholstery service. And of course, you can count on the same dedication, guarantee and quality that go into every piece of furniture we make.
There is a common misconception that the cost of re-upholstery is much less than buying new. With re-upholstery, the money you save on previously owning the frame is absorbed in the labour it will take a craftsmen to remove the existing fabric in preparation for the new. In reality, the cost difference is marginal.
It is always difficult when deciding whether to re-upholster or buy new. Asking yourself these few simple questions might help you to make an informed decision:
1. What is the sentimental value of the piece? Is it a family heirloom or antique?
Answer: If the piece of furniture you're contemplating is in fact a family heirloom or antique, then you should really consider having it re-upholstered.
2. Are you finding it difficult to duplicate the shape and/or style of your current sofa?
Answer: If the answer is yes, and the frame is in good condition, go for it!
3. Is the frame of the piece in question cracked, split or broken? Does it have broken or misaligned springs?
Answer: If you don't particularly like the piece or the frame is damaged and the piece isn't a family heirloom or antique, then it might be time to consider a new one.
Choosing an upholsterer
- Quotes vary from upholsterer to upholsterer. It is important to ask what is included in the quote.
- Do they remove old fabric, or simply recover?
- Do they rewrap the frame and seat cushions with Dacron for protection and comfort?
- Do they tighten the frame, fix springs and/or webbing?
